yahoo had an article posted this weekend about the retirement of the Shuttle program. Armstrong and a few others were trying to get the President and Congress to rethink the dumbass idea of taking the Shuttle out of service. They were trying to get them to realize just how valuable the Shuttle is and that relying on Russia, China and private enterprise IS NOT the best way to further America's Space program. They were trying to get them to understand that for building the Space Station the Shuttle is a very good and reliable vehicle and from there we can build Space Ships that can further explore Space. To me, taking the Shuttle out of service is such a dumbass fucking idea. The Space Shuttle was built to be a Space Truck and that is what's its been and a very reliable one too. If there was something better, I could understand retiring them but since there's not, why would you even thing about it? Our politicians are such dumbasses!

thanks for this info - not all of us H666 are from us and some of us do not know all what happens - i agree that ending one thing is only good if you have a newer/better one

There is something better, and more than a few different WORKING prototypes to choose from... Plus, the new designs are by far way more efficient on fuel and easier on the pocket book. I'm not sure if you know this, but America is in a financial meltdown right now. I think we've raised enough ant farms in space and developed enough astronaut ice cream to get us by for the time being...

Evidently there isn't a working prototype(s), that is what Armstrong and the others were saying in the article, unless you know something that they don't. http://news.yahoo.com/apollo-astronauts-congress-bring-back-space-shuttle-205203440.html .Here is the link so you can see for yourself... But if you do know what the next Space Craft is, I'd like to see it. O... and I deff know there is meltdown going on Philly, I fix houses, and there isn't an American Industry that has been hit harder.

key words. prototypes. Nasa reported they may have to evacuate the space station. Another russian rocket blew up on the pad a couple weeks ago. it is the only transportation available. in an emergency, they would be stuck there. keepin one shuttle for emergency use is a thought.

Noone on here has the security clearance to know exactly what they are up to. For all we know, those astronauts could've been told to say that to draw attention away from whatever top secret project they're workin on. The prototypes they have are smaller and lean more towards going further into space. Grounding the shuttle for emergencies makes sense...but I doubt that is their only motivation.

Wow! I'm really impressed the cameraman was able to hold on and keep the camera steady the entire time.

It's a damn shame the shuttle program has ended during a time of NASA slowly losing funding because our wealth is being spend on endless wars. I mean seriously where has our ingenuity and imagination gone. So many great things have spawned out of space exploration.

That video would be compelling if not for the inclusion of hollywood imagery.

Don't you think there's enough amazing REAL events that's happened on earth that they could have showed that instead of clips from movies?
      • Caliswangin24 | 2 years ago
You make a good point, but that takes too much time, it's better just to steal other artists work and make an inspirational video ... duh :>O

great post hammer - amazed at how many security/control cams they attach to this now we all hope NASA invents a new rocket are they now just "renting/hireing " space on other rockets ??

[image]Han Solo, eat your heart out. To date, not a spacecraft built with a view like that. The Shuttle's decommission is a fucking shame.
