The nice thing of growing up in a small town is knowing all the police and I had a neighbor that slapped his son around almost as bad as that. After my brother and I worked him over for a few hours we made an "anonymous" call for domestic violence and the asshole spent 2 weeks in ICU before going to prison. +3 reply

Long story short: I grew up in a very abusive household. My father was one of the worst psychotic, psychopathic alcoholics I ever met, very vicious drunk or sober. Terrorized Mom, me, and my sister until I got old enough to put up a good fight. So, I don't condone or tolerate violence against women or children, and I've gotten in trouble several times for "remonstrating" with assholes who tried that shit. Most of the people that are belittled on this site have dug their own grave, so to speak, by being grossly overweight, shoving things where they shouldn't be shoved, not taking care of themselves, etc with the exception of the disabled. Either way, (again with the exception of the disabled) they are old enough to know better than to put themselves in the situation that wound them up on the internet in the first place. Children, on the other hand, are defenseless and do not have the mental capacity or the means to remove themselves from any situation without the help of a responsible adult. I work in Child Protection, helping children who are at risk of significant harm from physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse and from neglect. It's an emotional job and a difficult job. Can't help them all, I wish I could, but there are some times when things change for the children and they are no longer at risk. +1 reply
