I don't think its fair to put all cops in the same category....because this jackass beats a teen girl. He should be charged accordingly, no different than the soldier that threw the puppy off a cliff. There are jackasses in every job, trust me I'm sure we've all worked with one at some time or another. Police officers should be held to a higher standard...soldiers should be held to a higher standard....when they fail.....they should pay. In this case the very law this officer stands for should be used to administer the appropriate punishment. The police should stop trying to protect their own and understand that when officers like this are allowed to behaive like this they erode the public trust., but by no means should we put all police in the same category.

  Well said! I wish I could plus you more than once for that. Being a cop is difficult enough, and idiots like this guy don't make it any easier. (I'm wondering why he didn't just close the cell door when she kicked off her shoe.) This is the sort of thing that makes good cops cringe.

    Liz, Sadly this sort of thing makes a good cop look the other way. Untill that kind of silence can be broken...more incidence like this will continue. This just so happened to be caught on tape, how many other times has this sort of behavior occured all across the country and we (the public) don't know. I am a criminal justice major and if the "blue line" can be broken and more departments "come clean" about this sort of behavior, the public as a whole would be more apt to trust them...it's sad when people make the comments like "I hate fucking police!" There is no way the police can make everyone happy....it's not about that, but if they would be more "open" and truly held themselves to a higher standard....the public as a whole may not like them....but would at least respect and trust them.

      I like the way you talk Wardancer. I agree with everything you said except that good cops don't look the other way. I never did and I still wont. Once you cross the line into criminal behavior you have chosen sides. And its all about which side your on.

This cop needs to be beaten unmercifully.but hey you know what will really happen.the judge will coddle him throughout the proceedings.he will lie his ass of in court and the judge will allow it.and when he is finally beaten by the evidence his attorney will try scare tactics such as asking questions like what is your address.I know this because I sent a cop to prison once.It would have easier had I just killed the filthy PIG.instead of following due process.

  Yeah....I suppose I shouldn't have thrown all good cops under the bus; however, you have to admit that, that the blue line is a strong one and I understand why it is and how it got to that, but this is the 21st century and departments need to stay current with the time re: training. If it was me I would require all oficers to have at least an associates degree. Have the Dept. and a local community college work together to form a strong course.
