Don't make up your mind too quickly- This is a fine example of how sometimes what the camera doesn't show matters, and how a little context goes a long way.
I wonder why the police didn't try to "verbally talk to him...". This just shows that sometimes half the story isn't enough. I know it goes both ways though- just wanted to exemplify why sometimes cops should get the benefit of the doubt.

He tells you to get down, you....get...the...fuck...down. THEN if he hits your calf in an attempt to lock the muscle and render you immobile...own his fucking house.
You're a cop, aren't you? I agree there are times it's called for and there's times it's not, this cop had to do what he had to do, but we can't allow cops or any authority figure to get violent without question.
No, I'm not a cop, nor do I even personally know any cops. I've even been on the wrong side of the law before, and paid a few years of my life for it. I just hate the idea of society sliding downward to the point where criminals (suspected or proven) are assumed to be the good guys. People teach their kids that cops aren't shit, and then wonder why their kid gets his ass kicked for running his mouth and being obstinent and combative when being questioned for something minor. I've been arrested, searched, hauled in for DUI, public intox, disorderly conduct, A&B, driving without a lisence(all different occasions) and I've never had a problem- because I've always been compliant. There is a time and place to claim your innocence, and it's not on the street. Cops don't care about guilt or innocence, and they shouldn't- that's the court's job, not the police's. Their job is public safety, and if keeping the public (and themselves) safe means busting a suspects head to get him to comply with arrest, then so be it.
I don't care if you're a cop or not, I just figured with all the cop uploads, you must be. I've also been on the wrong side too and was always "yes sir" and "no, sir" and was treated well except for one time but that's a long story. I agreed that there are times that force is justified but there are also many times that it's not. Whooping someone's ass just because they get mouthy is bullshit. We have the right, as Americans (all your uploads have been American), to be mouthy. You can't sit there and tell me that every police brutality video you've ever seen was justifiable.
I can't say they were all justified, but with a lack of additional info, I give the benefit of the doubt to the men and women who risk their lives for shit pay to try to keep me and everyone else safe from assholes who don't care about the rule of law. When what I see shows blatant abuse, I don't excuse it. When all I see is a combative suspect resisting, I assume the cops are doing what they have to do.
I agree, benefit of the doubt. But when they are wrong and being power tripping assholes it should be one strike and counseling and other punitive measures. Second strike and you are the one being thrown in jail. I demand a higher standard from the police and expect others to demand the same. If we make this demand and follow through with it we all benefit. The bullies and thugs, (and there are many cops like that) will disappear and a finer class of police will arise to take their place.
Roger that- the whole "blue code of silence" shit boils my blood. I know they feel the obligation to protect each other, but the "yeah, he was resisting, I saw it too..." shit does a lot of damage to their reputation, and causes doubt and suspicion (as seen on many comments here)on even proper and justified action. There's a lot of room for improvement on both sides.
True, but you gotta understand they are our authority the government has the military and we have the police. They do our bidding. As for the rough beating, text book take down, he's just lucky he didn't try to take a gun from one of my trainees. Police in many states and countries have authority to issue strikes to the long bones and even head of an assailant like this. He was actually treated very nicely.
Cops should have wearable cameras on.. I know I would.. had they not had that video of him going for the gun the aclu would have been all over this.. bastards..
Maybe but it would also allow the bad cops to no longer be swept under the rug. As long as they pay their dues, the unions couldn't care less about them.
The guy isnt doing what the cop wants him to do....he is justifed in hitting him with the baton....like it or not....

Rodney King my ass. I'm against police brutality, but if a drunk motherfucker was grabbing for my gun and then took off running, I would've beat his ass too. If it had been someone out of uniform, he would've been "doing the right thing" and "protecting himself."
Exactly why there is absolutely no reason for 'people on the street' interviews about what the police should have done. Wish they would've split that idiots head open on camera.
Police brutality bla bla bla... Can ANYONE please explain me one simple thing? WHY I've never been beaten by cops? Because I'm white? Or is there any other reason? Anyone? Please?
Hey Artem, I heard from the boys down at the precint it's because your sister is a legendary badge bunny and as a result you will always be given a free pass.
They say she handles the night stick with extreme skill and dexterity aforethought.
Oh THAAAT right? (sarcasm) Now you see, boys and girls why I don't give a fuck about Rodney King kind of crap? Go talk to some 3rd world countries about police brutality... if you survive the first 20 seconds... Don't do shit and follow the rules (which are made for everyone) and don't be a dirtbag criminal and no one is going to touch your sorry pussy ass...
Well yeah...they also said that on any given night...if the moon is aligned with the stars and the soda machine is working...they say Momma Artem has been known to jump into the back seat of a patrol car and help to alleviate some poor officers stress.
To me, this shows that cops, if acting properly shouldn't be afraid of people recording. Sometimes it can go the other way, sometimes the recordings can show how the officers were well within their rights. I'm glad to see these officers careers weren't dragged through the mud, and all the other song and dance we do when shit like this happens.
