Dog Swims Half-Mile after Owner Dies in a Crash

The amazing ability of animals sometimes is enough to make people wonder how the animal was able to perform such a feat, such as Barney the Tampa, Florida dog who swims half-mile to safety in the aftermath of a car accident. The entire experience was caught on camera, and the footage has shocked and awed all who have watched the clip.

The canine had been riding along with its owner, who had been involved in a drinking and driving accident, when the car crash occurred. The owner of the animal and driver of the vehicle had been hit by a drunk driver and immediately killed. The frightened yet loyal animal took off from the scene of the accident and the animal dove in to the waters off of Point of Rocks, near Sarasota, and began to swim for help. The animal was in shock and terrified after having been jolted during the accident.

A kayaker enjoying some time out on the water, was surprised when out of the blue, the canine paddled right up to the edge of his kayak; obviously in distress. The man pulled dog aboard, and watched as the animal cowered in the corner of the boat from fear. The man immediately headed towards shore, and then promptly took the animal to a vet. The vet determined the name and owner of the animal via the RFID chip the animal had; and it was then discovered the dog was involved in the car accident and was now left homeless as his owner had died during the crash.
