LINDEN, NC (AP/WRAL) - A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday after a neighbor told deputies this month that she saw the man having sexual relations with her dog, officials said.

A DNA test taken from the dog lead to the man's arrest on Monday morning, the Associated Press reported.

Ray Lynn Mitcham Jr. of Rusty Road in Linden, was charged with felony crime against nature, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, WRAL reported.

The incident was discovered when the dog's owner, who rents a mobile home to Mitcham, went to speak with him on Jan 2. When the neighbor opened the door of Mitcham's mobile home she told detectives that she saw him attacking the dog.

The dog, a mixed-breed female, was taken to a vet, who then took a DNA sample from the dog, Cumberland Sheriff's spokesperson Debbie Tanna told the AP.


The DNA from the dog matched Mitcham's and he was charged Monday.

"There's no way he can sidestep this," Tanna said.

A magistrate set a $5,000 unsecured bond for Mitcham and he was released.

Liden is located about 12 miles northeast of Fayetteville and about 4 miles west of I-95.
