Existing and living are not synonyms. Personally, I exist every hour, every day. But I only live occasionally. Myself, I'd find it hard to "live" when someone very much like me could kill me because I'm "different." Course, I'm a total puss.

Not necessarily - read up about what the Belgians did in the Congo in the late 19th and early 20th century. An excellent book is "Kig Leopold's Ghost" by Adam Hochschild. They didn't massacre widely like the Japanese but they did lop off hands, torture with impunity etc. Same goes for the Spanish in the Americas - testing their swords' blades on babies, hunting Indians for sport with specially trained attack dogs raised on human flesh, widespread rape and hacking off of limbs and so forth (American Holocaust by David E Stannard)

And there is also the small matter of the holocaust perpetrated by Western Germans and aided and abetted by other Europeans....
