Superheroes...in the truest sense. +16 reply

It cheapens the word 'heroes' when signing up automatically makes you one. I have nothing against soldiers, but not all of them joined for the right reasons and there are some of them that are just psychopathic assholes. Heroes are only special because they distinguish themselves through actions, not because they wear a uniform. +4 reply

you are very right! the Time that I was in the military |2 years| there was a guy who only talked about wanting to rape and slaughter people! My C.O. heard Him say somthing Real Real wrong and he was sent to a Test sight and well after He was deemed Mentaly Unstable! +7 reply

he does make a point though, i dont consider all soldiers hero's.. you dont get that discription by signing a peice of paper and going thru boot camp. and remember that true hero's will never call themselves that reply
          • knightwolftrk | 11 months ago
one only becomes a hero by sacrificing themselves for a greater good or cause. by fighting for maybe even dying for others. others like you asshole. whatever you think of the mission we do have boys ( yes boys mostly 18 - 20 ) out there fighing and dying for that greater cause, and they are not stupid. they know what they are doing and why. any idiot can put on clothes, it takes far more to wear the uniform of a U.S. military. yes these men are hero's and I for one and damb proud to have them as my felow countymen +3 reply

you obviously are missing the point. It's not about if the war was right or wrong, it's about paying respect to those whom made ultimate sacrifice, military or not, and those that must continue on. It is not about the media's body count. It's not about they choice, we have a job and we will do it regardless, just as millions of other people in their occupation. I guarantee you that any American President in the same situation would have done the same thing. If you don't believe that, then you don't understand politicians and you don't understand media. What sells newspapers, what makes TV headlines. It is not the one whom agrees, it is the one that will provide controversy. Therefore you are saturated with opposition, not for the sake of being fair and balanced, but for the sake of profit. However not understanding this causes one to fall victim to the corporate machine. +4 reply

if you don't believe the media bias, answer this. Why don't you see a stat like this, 1 military member died today, 189,000 survived. You never will because bad news sells. Or this stat, a suicide bomber killed 27 people today, and 457 survivors thanked the military for their presence. Neutral or good new does nothing for the mass media. Too many people have their opinions formed by biased media. One must seek out the complete picture. Besides who cares who's right or wrong. It's about getting a full story/picture. An ignorant voter is a dangerous voter. +12 reply

I'm only proud to be an American because of those who do THAT for this country. No other reason-- We have some brave, gutsy and mindbafflingly amazing men (& women) who do that for our country. And then we have the asshole's who run it. +18 reply

I agree, It's not our soldiers who are dishonest and untrustworthy...it's our government. The lying dogs and pigs "we elect" are the reason for it all. It's about the almighty dollar...they pay the lives of our loved ones just so they can pursue their own greed. Our fathers, brothers, mothers, and sisters in the armed forces are fighting to protect something that isn't at stake to begin with...and if you don't believe that you DO have your head in the sand. +2 reply

these men do it because they love to do it. they love guns, and to kill, and love being commando's and fighting for our country and family.... even if it means loseing their life. those are the real men. the real government...... -2 reply

Do you really think so? I think that the idea of "Protecting and Keeping Peace" is a big factor here. Not ever G.I. Joe or Jane is out to "blow shit up". +1 reply

Soldiers have always been the "expendable" aspect in warfare. While the fat generals sit in their offices and politicians bullshit on about this and that, the soldiers bear the brunt of politics. +2 reply

True dat.....true dat. This post makes me sad and proud at the same time. It's their duty to be there regardless of why, and it saddens me to know that the why is almost never enough to put our bravest through such hell within arms reach. Freedoms have their price and it's our job to make sure the ones running this country are on the straight and narrow and don't frivolously throw our finest into an unnecessary war. I'm not on either side of the argument, I'm just putting it out there. +1 reply

I agree, Anyone that complains about not being happy with the way the United states is should consider all the people that are fighting to make it as good as it is. THere are TONS of other places where you cant' even leave your house to go to the grocery store without the fear of being shot. All the little things we take for granted are being kept safe because we have our guys and girls over there busting ass and suffering. I can speak from experience and say it's so tough on our guys to be over there. No family and you will never know much you miss the small things you can do until you have to do without them.. Being able to kiss your wife or kids goodnight is not something we should have to sacrifice when others sit on their ass and whine. +3 reply

You had me until the end. :( Someone very famous said, "The point of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard to die for his." I know the days of "honorable war" are gone, but I've always held respect for the soldier, no matter who he or she is. They are dying for something that they believe in, and that is honorable no matter who you are. reply

Many people from many different places lose loved ones to war and crime...not just us in the U.S. Anyone who is willing to stand up and fight for what they believe in all the way til death is a person worthy of admiration in my book. +2 reply

And to all those ass holes out there who say the military is for just blowing stuff up and killing. Its not killing in a fun sense... its putting your own life on the line to save countless others. Its to put a stop to those out there who believe they have a right to kill innocent people. These people are the ones that make this country what it is. These people should be honored. These are the real heroes of today. So don't blame them, blame the government and terrorists who started this shit. +4 reply

This post and the comments have really touched me. I have no silly, off color comments to make. As a Desert Storm vet myself, I have complete respect for the troops; only the leaders go to war with evil or corrupt intent. In reply to yanidez; even the enemy deserves respect for standing up to fight because they're somebody's dad, brother, son or husband too. This shouldn't stop you from killing them but they do deserve to be respected for the fight. +2 reply

My cousin had to go to Iraq right after he got married, and it's hard to imagine that a lot of my family might not come back and they're surrounded by people whom don't realize they're there to help and don't care about where they're from etc. reply

my boyfriend got back from iraq about a year & a half ago. it's so hard not to question why we are fighting a war that wasn't ours to begin with, but that has nothing to do with our soldiers. i'm opposed to the war myself. it hurts me (& i know it hurts him too) to see all these groups & protestors who don't support our men & women in the military. your comment is unbelievably true... my boyfriend will be the very first one to tell you that he he knew damn well what he was getting himself into. but he did it ANYWAY. and he isn't looking for any sympathy or a medal. he did it because he wanted to serve his country. because he is looking out for ALL of us. even those who don't support him. because he is a man of honor. & i'm a damn proud ARMY girlfriend!!! *Spec. C.J.G. 1-107th* *HOOAH!* +4 reply

The US Military does not take drop outs sdtuu. In fact, a lot of our troops have either a degree or several years of college. They're a very well educated force. And don't forget the National Guard, which consists of professions from virtually every facett of our society. Stupid they are not. +3 reply
  • We've got a kid at work right now that is so excited to join the army, he thinks it's "cool" and will help him "get girls"! I wish he could see what i know goes on. I've got two cousin's in that war and regardless of beliefs and religion and fucking politics, we should all just support them as INDIVIDUAL beings. Because let's face it, we're all at the comfort of our homes, sitting on our ever larging asses while we eat McDonalds for dinner and complain about bills. These guys are squating under bushes, with nothing to eat in sweltering heat and haven't had a good meal in days. +2 reply

while i'm at it, i figured i'd let you all have a taste first hand of what my boyfriend wrote while in the heart of iraq... Dec. 10. 2005 This is just me blowing off some steam about the pussy, politically correct, anti-military fucks that have nothing better to do with their time than bitch about the war. I hope you enjoy the freedom to complain about this all because guess what? They same people you criticize and the same graves of the fallen of the armed forces whose graves you piss on are the reason you have these freedoms to gripe. I'm tired of hearing about how we serve no purpose being over here. How soon we forget the tragedy of 9-11. Would you rather have the terrorists attacking in our own back yards?? Also, how dare anyone have the audacity to protest military funerals and say that soldiers deserve to die. I could give two shits if you agree with the war but support the soldiers. I would like to personally extend the invitation to get the hell out of the USA for every one of them. +1 reply
    • SweetPea | 2 years ago
If you enjoy these freedoms than politely shut the hell up. Yes, the number of deaths is currently over 2,100 but we all made our choices to join the military and have agreed to die to protect YOUR freedoms as well as ours. The least you can do for that sacrifice is shut your friggin' cock holsters and stop disgracing the memory of the fallen. I personally would not change my decision to protect you, even though some of you don't deserve it. I thank everyone who supports us, and to those who don't sit down, be quiet, and piss off. May the souls of the fallen find comfort and peace with God. +1 reply

you all need to grow the fuck up.why feel bad for any of them.they are doing their job.I'm so fucking sorry if they can't handle it and need to cry like about.and fuck that last picture with the dead kid,Thats a good picture We probably stopped him from growing up and strapping a bomb to himself and killing two hundred people.Look people its fucking war (and a good war at that) you all need to stop with this whole bush needs to die shit for having us over their and shit like that.Try and look at it like this.If we in the U.S were weak like the rest of the world and some cocksucking country took us over and chopped our heads off or hung us from our toes for days on end or just fucking used nerve gas and killed us like hitler did the jews(which was a good thing) you all would be crying like little bitches just as all of Iraq was until we got there.this is a must need war.We need to kill them all and free these fucking people from living like scared kids all their lives. +1 reply
    • Airborne | 2 years ago
That kid also could have grown up to be a future leader of an Iraqi democracy and helped bring peace and prosperity to his war-torn country. Or he could have grown up to be a genius and cured cancer or aids. Not all babies born in Iraq are destined to become suicide bombers. +1 reply

and don't give me this shit about WE DON'T BELONG OVER THERE .Its our job to help the ones that can't help themselves out.I'm glad i live in the U.S and I'm glad we rule the world(and you all know we do)nothing happens in this world without the us right in the middle of it.but all I'm saying is this.If you sign your name to a piece of paper and you give the next few years of your life to our military ,then don't fucking cry when you have to do your fucking job.they don't train you to cry, they train you to fucking kill without mercy.suck it us and free those fucking people then you can come home and cry about the things you saw.and the true side of war you don't see is what fucked up things we do to them, our boys do some fucked up shit in every war we are in. reply
    • theres more than american troops over there. please dont assume you are doing at all yourselves. see if you can find out how many american run missions have only been successfull whilst having all their recon perormed by brit forces. am not dissing the yanks-am sick of hearing the sob stories as if thery are the only ones doing anything. reply

the only real glory of war is surviving. the only true hero's are the ones that died doing what they thought would make a differance by giving up their all so that we could have all. i did my time but i DO NOT count myself a hero or vet but just a survivor. so yes thanking us feels great and makes us proud you cared enuff to say thank you. but it is the ones that are died or left over there ( in a war or another country) that need the thank you for what they did. +1 reply
