Back in the day, Cubans were supreme, but better tobacco QA and growing practices have moved off the Cuban island. Don't get me wrong, the premium cigars being produced there are still some of the best but if we normalize trade with Cuba, we will be flooded with sub par cigars stamped with made in Cuba, and people will buy them up.

Could them being rare and illegal have something to do with it? I suspect that it does add in a psychological factor into it.

Yip, smoked a few Dominicans, unsure of which are quality brands as they are a bit of an unknown quantity in the UK. I paid a third of the comparible UK price when there, though I thought they would be cheaper. Cuba has learnt not to under value it's best asset.
