I agree even more so for the women needing protection. Though, I usually recommend mace for women. Because sadly a lot (not judging your wife and daughter here) of women hesitate too long. They are afraid to shoot, hesitant to kill someone, even when they are in danger. With a gun the attacker has to have already done something to them usually before they use it. Then, sometimes, it is too late. Though with mace they can use it before the attacker crosses the line. Also, its hard to miss with mace.

As far as your point of "man's best friend" I can't factually defend that statement word for word. But I can say that dogs and humans have co evolved. A dog can understand signals and intentions/emotions from a human better than any other animal. Even primates. So, they do have a proven, factual connection.

Unlike the USA, which is looking at huge debt, and a political failure to confront the systemic issues, and unlike China which only today has again cut their central bank rate by 25 points (2nd time since July), has reduced bank reserve requirements 3 times-- France is not having to engage in these efforts. Similar to China's panic moves to print money, the USA has already done so numerous times, and has put in place legislation allowing monetary expansion with no capital restrictions (no debt buying on the market). Basically France is a stable economy. They are not having liquidity, manufacturing, or debt crisis like we see in USA and China. France has a large well-educated workforce which is lacking in USA, and almost non-existent in China. And bitching on socialist programs isn't a good argument when Germany has a lot of socialist programs in place.
