It was a steel guy wire used for supporting really high vertical structures.. also used in precast concrete and as light weight support for things that need to span long distances such as domes.. the conspiracy theorists would tell you light weight airframes could easier go right through a puny half inch price of steel, but clearly they have never seen a cut sheet on something like that..

For a vehicle that based on physics shouldn't fly...why would u tether it with a steel cable?
