I hear what you're saying but this guy obtained his weapon illegally. Pass 3,000 laws a day. The fact of the matter, at least in this matter, gun laws would not be a deterrent. Those kids still would have died allong with the teachers and staff and for the shooter, the penalty was death. By his own hand yes, but at least the dumb fuck won't strike again. I like my guns and use them for protection, and I also agree a psychological evaluation should be in place for gun owners.

We have gun control in place already. The kid tried to buy a firearm a few days before and was turned down due to controls in place. So what did he do? He stole his mothers guns. The 20 year old kid that did this today was not a criminal. He was a honors' student. I don't agree with gun control, but I do understand the logic. If all someone has to do is pull a trigger to kill someone it's more likely that person will. It would be rational to believe (all) 28 people would not have died today if he was armed with a knife.

With that said I'd just prefer criminal background checks, psych evaluations and training were mandatory on all guns. Also, stiffer penalties for having an "illegal/non-registered" weapon.
