In an emergency situation I would agree that he would need to or have been forced to comply. But in this case it is obvious that there was no emergency and the officer assessed the situation correctly after being reminded that the law is also designed to protect citizens from persecution. They are trained to build cases against people as soon as they start talking, so they often times think it's the only way to handle a situation.
