    Its a Pilonidal cyst formed at the gluteal cleft, usually asymptomatic but often gets infected when its caled a pilonidal abscess. If symptomatic like if infected need incising and draining the pus. unfortunately it can be recurrent as is the nature of any cyst( since simply incising and draining does give relif to the symptoms but as the cyst wall is not removed there is always a chance of re infection. Hence in longstanding pilonidal condition, viz. Pilonidal cyst, abscess, sinus, it is better off doing a karyadakis procedure , which is basically a skin flap procedure to flatten the natal cleft by completely removing the skin and underlying cyst and lifting a flap to cover the defect. reply
